Prayer:

Prayer is affirmation of belief in the possibility of change.
Prayer helps us to focus on what is truly important.

Judaism:

Judaism is devotion to the Jewish people, Torah and God. Reconstructionist Judaism puts a modern, American spin on the 3 elements:
  1. Reconstructionists are above all, devoted to the survival of the Jewish people. Be tolerant and loving to ALL people. One cannot do that by embracing the "chosen people" concept.
  2. Torah is not a book dictated to Moses by God. It is written by the Jewish people, for the Jewish people. Torah expresses the beliefs and hopes of the Jewish people.
  3. God Science has changed the way we look at the world. We now can view the world in terms of abstract processes. There is something in the world - a process, a force -- which helps us in efforts to be kind, decent human beings. People have a passion for freedom and justice and a desire to make this world a Kingdom of God. God is a process which makes for freedom, justice, righteousness, kindness, love, compassion, humanity and peace. Everything good is associated with the process of God. God has nothing to do with evil.

Freedom and the Jew

And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh and said unto him: How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? Let my people go that they may serve me! (Exodus 10)

Since the exodus freedom has spoken with a Hebrew accent. (Heinrich Heine)

A mighty longing for freedom is what characterizes the Jew. (Judah Magnes)

The character of a people derives, in large part, from the circumstances under which it is born. The people of Israel, having been born in bondage, has the love of freedom and the sense of human dignity deeply engraved in its consciousness. (Mordecai M. Kaplan)
